His Emminence Metropolitan of Rhodes Kyrillos, Patriarchal Exarch of the Cycladic islands (25-04-2004)

Biography

His Emminence, Metropolitan of  Rhodes Kyrillos (Konstantinos Kogerakis), was born in Koumasa Monofatsiou Heraklion Crete, (Municipality of Gortinas), on 2nd July 1964.

He completed his general studies in Heraklion, Crete, and then he studied Theology at the Theological Faculty of the University of Athens. His Emminence continued with his Postgraduate studies, firstly at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Faculty of Theology in the field of Liturgics, and afterwards, with a scholarship from the PRO ORIENTE Foundation, he continued his studies in Catholic Theology at the Theological Faculty of the University of Graz, Austria (Karls Universität).

He was tonsured a monk in the historical Monastery of Agarathos, Heraklion, (17-2-1991) by the then Abbot, Gennadios Stavroulakis. He was ordained a Deacon on 23rd of February 1991 by the then Archbishop of Crete Timotheos and a priest on 16th of August 1995. On the same day he received the office of Archimandrite. 

For five years he served as the Archdeacon of the Metropolitan of Austria Michael (1991-1995) and upon his return to Crete he became an official preacher of the Holy Archdiocese of Crete (1995-2000) and Director of the Holy Archdiocese Radio Station (1996-2000).

In the year 2000 he was named by His Emminence Archbishop Timotheos as the Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Crete.

On 20th April 2004, he was elected Metropolitan of Rhodes by the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. He was ordained to the episcopate by His All Holiness, the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople Bartholomeos on 25th April 2004 (Sunday of the Myrrh bearers) in the Sacred Patriarchal and Stavropegic Monastery the Life-Giving Fountain, Baloukli.

On June 5th 2004, His Emminence Kyrillos was enthroned in the capital of the Dodecanese prefecture, Rhodes Greece, in the presence of the representative of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomeos, His Emminence Metropolitan of Iconium Theoliptos.

Metropolitan Kyrillos has published many articles in Heraklion and Cretan press and in local Church magazines. As a hymnographer of the Holy Orthodox Church he has written a large number of Services for Saints of the Orthodox Church, many of which have been issued in the Church's publication "Cretan Saints" as well as various other publications. In 2011 he published a monumental work known as the "Limonarion", a collection of services for the Rhodian and Dodecanese Saints.
